Serene Ocean Breeze ~ Prelude

cry a peaceful sob for the mermaid I drowned with lust by sea,
mourn for her passing; she was sweet fantasy,
the trouble was that I was too complacent to see,
that she was completely in love with me...

even as wanderers roam the meadows onward to pilgrimage's enlight,
even as travellers transgress upon shallow heat of desert beneath their feet,
there burns a candle in my study so dimly bright,
capturing the retreating existence of youth in defeat,

the clock bell falls upon the hour of rejoicing delight,
yet in his den sits the predator in his anticipating seat,
casts upon the dusty tomes the spectre of his majestic sight,
hermit lore is sung for the compatriot to meet,

alone in a silent palace held by pillars of frosty white,
imposing reality onto the innocent has been his regal treat,
ties to the overworld have ceased their senile plight,
without a friend in the world with which to greet,
