In an editorial in the September 22 issue of the Daily Orange Mark A. Brousseau offered an interesting, if somewhat idiosyncratic, sketch of contemporary political geography. “There are only two places where communism is still considered a viable system — Southeast Asia and Syracuse,” said Brousseau. “No matter what the Marshall Street merchants or the Alternative Orange would have you believe, this is still a capitalist country. You know, free markets, lots of competition and survival of the fittest.” We, the staff members of the Alternative Orange, wish to thank Mr. Brousseau for noting our gross oversight concerning the dominant socio-economic system. Indeed, capitalism is the dominant system not only in the United States but worldwide. We apologize to our readers for not having noticed sooner and hope the articles in this issue represent our politically corrected vision.
