Formal Grievance Against Professor Stephen Dobyns

The Syracuse University cell of the REVOLUTIONARY MARXIST COLLECTIVE OF THE UNITED STATES protests the sexist practices of Stephen Dobyns, a professor of Creative Writing in the Department of English at Syracuse University and his brutal harassment of our comrade, Jennifer Cotter. We demand that Robert Jensen, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Gerson Vincow, Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and Kenneth Shaw, Chancellor of the University, who so far have remained silent on this ongoing sexual harassment in the English Department, take action immediately to dismiss Stephen Dobyns from the faculty.

The entire faculty and administration of the English Department has been intimidated by Dobyns's status as a writer-celebrity and thus has consistently turned a blind eye to his harassing practices in spite of public knowledge of his sexist activities. We demand that in the absence of decisive leadership in the English Department, the University administration take concrete and decisive steps to make the English Department and other pedagogical and work sites of the University safe for women and others.

Put an end NOW to the sexist behavior of Stephen Dobyns and begin to hire pedagogues who advance progressive social and intellectual practices!
