Paul,

I was born in Roger Springs, East Tennessee. The Klan drove us out of town
when I was 2 years old. I don't remember that. We moved to Sharpsville,
Middle Tennessee. The townspeople there drove us out of town there, as
well (I was six--I remember that real good). We wound up in Murfreesboro,
Middle Tennessee, where I live most of my childhood and a certain part of
my adult years. I like Murfreesboro, but I wouldn't care if it were known
by the name of one or two people. Murfreesboro is best know for two
things. Uncle Dave Macon Day (so in a sense the town is known for Uncle
Dave and for Cap'n Murphy). And the Battle of Stones River in the Civil
War, where "you could walk for six miles on dead bodies and never touch
foot to ground," and where "the Stone River ran red with blood for three
days." I had a great, great, great grandfather had both legs shot off in
the battle. He was rescued by a Union soldier. Interesting story, but I
will save it for another day.

But aren't you fetishizing cities? And I was only adding a little humor to
the whole affair. Guess I should mess with a man's hometown.

Peace,
Andrew Austin
