__________________________________
Welcome!
This list is dedicated to the presentation of essays, monographs,
reviews, abstracts and details of current research, etc. Posts are
expected to be scholarly, academic, or at least well thought-out
within the frame work of Extropian principles (the latest version of
the Extropian Principles (Ver. 2.0.) is reprinted at the end of this
document.) Original research is especially welcome.
This list was created to provide a forum for material that has either
not been appearing on our main list or which has been trapped in the
noise. If you wish to join in the free ranging discussion of Extropian
ideas, subscribe to the main list by sending a note to:
extropians-request@gnu.ai.mit.edu
This list is considered private. That means that we have a number of
rules about how you may use material you get from your subscription to
the list, and how you interact with the list. Your continued
subscription indicates your acceptance of these rules. In Extropian
terms, this list is governed by a poly-centric legal code. While the
having such detailed rules may seem odd or even strange to you,
the code/rules are used here for two (2) reasons.
1) I believe in testing Extropian Theory. The use of a poly-centric
legal code for this list is such a test.
2) Various extropians place different property values on what they
write. Some wish to retain all rights to the material, others wish to
make their posts freely available. The rules will hopefully insure
that everyone's material will be treated in the manner they desire.
*The Rules*
0) The Meta-Rule: All "admin" requests MUST be made to:
exi-essay-request@gnu.ai.mit.edu
1) You are welcome to make posts that meet our criteria (see 1a). You
may make posts in a variety of formats. However, ALL *posts* must
be made in ascii format. Optional formats include GIF, JPEG, TeX,
Postscript, MS-Word, FrameMaker, etc.
All posts must be under 100k or in segments of less than 100k
1a) Posts may be essays, monographs, reviews, abstracts and details of
current research, etc. Posts are expected to be scholarly, academic,
or at least well thought-out within the frame work of Extropian
principles.
2). The copyright on each post is held by the poster.
2a.) Cross-posting, forwarding, etc. is not allowed. Other ExI lists
excepted unless prohibited by the poster. (It is ok to make a quoted
reply to the main list unless the poster prohibits it.)
3). All posts will also appear on a private conf. on The Well.
(Send mail to habs@well.sf.ca.us for admission.)
4). Posters may indicate alternative copyright restrictions. For
example: A poster may indicate a post is copyleft, etc.
5). Any post in which the poster has indicated by the alternative
copyright that it may be cross-posted will be stored at a public
accessed FTP site. See the FTP section below.
6). No discussion or quoted replies are allowed on the exi-essay list.
You may write detailed response to an article, but it must meet the
criteria of this list. Such a reponse must be able to stand alone/up
without the prior work. For example, if you don't agree with someone's
research, conduct your own and report on it/write it up for this list.
(If it is not a well written article of fact please post it somewhere
else.)
6b) A regular administrative post will be made by the list manager.
It will appear every few weeks and also when needed by special
activities or offerings.
7) Violations of these rules will result in the removal of the
offender from the list for a time period set by the list manager. Your
continued subscription to the exi-essay list is your agreement to
abide by these rules.
