Catalogs in a nut shell
Free at pickup spots.
Production: Monthly
Deadline: Last working day of the month.
Produced: First week of month.
Delivered: By the first weekend of the month
	Weekly/every 10- two weeks
Costs: $99.50 per 2,000 11"x17" double sided colored paper
	black ink including folding.
Advertising: Ads are accepted $20 per Bizz card or $10 on
	a regular basis.
	Inserts are accepted. $20 per 1,000 or work it out.
Skills:
	Desktop publishing
	Computer literacy
	Computer access
	Laser printing
	or find someone to do
Printing: Shop for your printer/copy shop.
	Work with them.
Subscriptions: $12 per year mailed.

Desktop Publishing needs
Computer skills or willingness to get someone to do it for your
GLU at cost or otherwise.   Seattle DTP can run $50 an hour
or more.

GLU/Seattle catalog is produced on a NeXT Turbo Workstation 
monochrome screen.  Word processing and some graphics skills on
the computer are helpful. (Oh lucky me. NeXT is baciscally the
new Edsell of the computers. Spent a fortune on a company that
is a good as going out business or least is no longer making
hardware. Nice nigthmare.)

If it had to be produced on a typewriter or whatever it could be. 
Where there is a will there is a way.You can do whatever
it is that you can do.  Do it the best you can.  It could be hand
 done.  It could look really sharp this way.
	
Production 
GLU/Seattle catalogs are currently published at a extra low cost 
establishment.  Originally the production was a 4 page tab. Due 
to money the layout has been changed to 11" x 17" double sided.
The cost is $99.50 for 2,000 copies of black ink on colored 
paper here in Seattle.  Your costs will different I am sure. The
future catalog will have only 1,000 printed so the cost will be
$50.

	
Delivery
Delivered weekly or so. Delivered on bicycle. 1 hour a week 
maximum. If your GLU is rich, a person can be hired to do this 
or the work farmed out to volunteers or people that want to work 
off a scholarship.
	
Subscriptions
Several people and organizations have subscribed to the catalog 
and get it delivered to their doorstep each month.  It costs $12 
a year.

Inserts
GLU/Seattle at this time encourages people to put inserts in the
catalog.    

Inserts as possible income.  GLU/Seattle charges $20 per 1,000
for anything that is stuffed.

Time involved can ad several hours a month.  2-4 hours or so.
It is considered a worthwhile of time.  

Inserts are Hassles?
This can be considered by many as a big hassle.  The inserts
are to be printed and cut by the person or organization
that needs them put in the catalog.  They are to be delivered 
before the deadline for the catalog which is the last working
day of each month.

GLU has stuffed ads for all sorts of people.  Private business,
self employed.  The March- April catalogs feature the League
of Womens voters pamphlet on who our representatives are in
the State of Washington.  

GLU/Seattle has also take a lead in offering its stuffing service 
on a free basis to certain activist groups.  League of
Lesbian Gay Prisoners and the Steven Farmer Defense fund and
many others.  

Skip the catalogs &
Now that we have covered all the junk above how about the idea
of just making snappy posters and putting those all over the
place and let people come in and register or???  It is your 
choice.  It may be more appropriate to do a poster scheme in 
your location.  Test it out if you want.
