Obama will not pick Kaine, Bayh or Biden. It will be Hillary Clinton. [August 19 2008 postscript: Quite a sport! If not her then Richardson, Sibelius or Kerry. Kerry is a safe bet with high agreement with Obama, military experience and long, long foreign policy experience as well. He is also white male.]

McCain will pick a federal agent who had an important mission. The agent will not be white male. [August 19 2008 postscript: We'd bet against Romney. Jindal, Portman and Ridge are maybes.]

In related news, Huckabee has come out at this moment to oppose dividing Jerusalem. Perhaps it was Obama's comments on the "antiChrist" which baited Huckabee.

Of course, McCain was on record for singing "bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran," but has since ruled out the "hard sell" of attacking Iran. It will be interesting to see how Iran's interests further play out in the elections.

In 1972, McGovern offered Senator Thomas Eagleton the vice-presidential nomination. After Eagleton took it, he ended up quickly discredited with allegations regarding his mental health that had managed to stay hidden up till that point. McGovern had to appoint someone else.
