The international proletariat always comes under pressure to support the Democrats at this time of year, because the Democrats are supposedly a tad left of the Republicans. Without endorsing Democrats, proletarian organizations can note that Barack Obama is only close in this race because the exploited and oppressed nations have stood on Bush's toes and given the Republican Party running the executive branch fits these past four years.
In an ordinary year, there is no way that a Barack Obama with little foreign policy experience would be in the running, even as two hot wars are going on. Gore and McCain in 2000 and Kerry in 2004 had more experience than Obama, but like Gore and Kerry, Obama is in this race, neck and neck with McCain.
The last time there was an election like this it was 1992 with Bill Clinton. At that time there were no hot wars on other than the air occupation of Iraq and Clinton only won 43% of the vote.(1) Obama stands a chance of doing better than 43% only because the oppressed and exploited already hammered the Bush administration substantially. Obama will have to do better than 43% this time to win.
Even if Obama loses, it is uncontestable that the anti-imperialist united front gave the Democrats a headstart for races in Congress. It's only now that Republicans are getting into gear, and mostly with candidates who are self-made millionaires, a restrictive candidate pool. If Democrats blow it in Congress, they have only themselves to blame.
The only argument against us would be that George W. Bush won in 2000 against McCain and then Gore--two more experienced candidates. Like Obama, Bush was the best fundraiser, but unlike Obama, Bush ran when there was no evident hot war.
The Democrats' positions on abortion or what feminism is did not suddenly become more popular. That is not the reason the Democrats are in this race at all. The dynamic element came from outside and delivered Bush to a 30 or 32% approval rating.(2)
When banks die in a Sunday whisper
On Sunday, Merrill Lynch got lynched. Lehman got laid off.(3) These bad economic news stories hurt Bush, again courtesy of international struggle.
Recently Democrats launched a gutter-level attack campaign on MIM. Harassment included clever action in a public place.
We also had some people at least posing as non-Obama supporters saying via grapevine that some secondary harassments were not from the Democrats. The best way to avoid being tagged for other people's actions is to deal with MIM in a straightforward English. Some Democrats owe us apologies and do not apologize, because they do not mind being lumped in with MIM's enemies. We have already taken action to rebuff some Democratic attempts to intimidate us.
Democratic foreign policy
We can give Obama credit for calling for an end to sanctions on Cuba during these hurricanes. Generally though, Obama has no record of dealing with foreign countries. The question arises, if the Democrats treat MIM this way now, what should we expect in how they treat foreign countries if they make it to the White House. We would suggest that if Democrats cannot deal with MIM, they're not going to be able to deal with many major problems in the world. Already Democrats are telling us about the racism they plan to unleash with Obama as their cover. It will be post-modernism run amok.
MIM was not around for Jimmy Carter, but in Bill Clinton's first term, we were under surveillance, as other organizations would also say. Bill Clinton continued the embargo on Iraq which killed half a million children there. He continued the air occupation and started the "weapons of mass destruction" bullshit in order to appease frothy domestic audiences. Clinton also continued the isolation of Libya. That is the Democratic foreign policy record.
When the Democrats come calling for money, tell them you already gave at the office along with the rest of the oppressed and exploited. Democrats have already received more help than they deserve. We hope they prove us wrong, but in the meantime, the independent causes of anti-militarism and anti-imperialism deserve support.
