THANK YOU.** History: SAIIC was founded in 1983 with the main purpose of re-establishing the lines of communication between Indian peoples and organizations throughout the American Continent. SAIIC provides educational information and support to the Native people of the Americas in their struggle for physical, cultural and spiritual survival. SAIIC maintains an all Indian Board of Directors. SAIIC networks with organizations that represent 22 million Native people in the Americas, and provides translation and dissemination of information reflecting their concerns. We believe that one of the most effective means for Native people to achieve sovereignty, cultural revitalization and rediscovery is through broader organizing and access to wider communication. SAIIC Program Objectives: % To build an international network of support for South an Meso American Indian People. The general purposes of the network are to (a) educate and inform public and NGO agendas and direct attention in media, community and academic arenas toward the above goals; (b) strengthen alliance between Indian, environmental and human rights organizations in the North with Indian people in the South; (c) achieve quick and widespread responses to political and ecological threats to Indian people and their lands; (d) to solicit direct technical or financial support for and in the communities requiring assistance. % To publish and produce written and audio-visual materials concerning Indian people from the South, and to disseminate these materials to a broad audience able to act in support of these issues. These materials offer the direct perspective of Indian people living in often isolated communities. SAIIC is able to publicize unique perspectives and strategies on social justice, ecological and international political issues. These materials provide universities, community activists, church groups and NGO's with unique organizing tools for their advocacy work.
